The experience of the best vineyard in the world, lived firsthand

We warmly welcomed some good friends to share a memorable experience in the heart of our City of Wine. Two unforgettable days filled with laughter, humor, and great vibes. They promised they would come back… and we’re holding them to that!

The City of Wine, step by step

Surrounded by centuries-old vineyards and architecture that harmoniously blends with the surroundings, we embarked on a fascinating journey through the history, flavors, and hidden corners of one of the world’s most iconic wineries.

The Clock Square,
the heart of the City of Wine

The heart of the City of Wine is undoubtedly the Clock Square, a place from which you can admire the history of Marqués de Riscal through the buildings surrounding the square. The red doors and windows, found all around the square and so characteristic, mark the entrance and invite us to discover the mysteries they hold.

Inside the original winery.
Careful! Those bottles are 163 years old

The Original Marqués de Riscal Winery began construction in 1863 under the guidance of engineer Ricardo Bellsolá. Inside, one of the greatest treasures of our history is preserved: a collection of vintage wine bottles. Marqués de Riscal was the first winery in the region to adopt bottling as a method of wine storage. Today, the bottles resting in this historic cellar are priceless.

El Palomar, this is where high-quality wines are crafted

The commercial success of Marqués de Riscal led the winery to undertake its first expansion. In 1883, construction began on the cellar known as El Palomar, designed in the style of Bordeaux wineries. In 2011, it was remodeled into a space equipped with the latest technology and the most advanced machinery. This is where wines like Barón de Chirel are crafted, which with its first vintage in 1986 became a benchmark for high-expression wines. Wines from the past, made with 20th-century technology.

We arrive at the hotel,
where avant-garde begins to emerge

We set tradition aside to highlight the unmistakable figure of the Hotel Marqués de Riscal, a Luxury Collection Hotel. Designed by Frank O. Gehry, the building blends the deepest winemaking traditions with avant-garde design and luxury. A true exercise in vision and boldness that has turned Marqués de Riscal into a global icon of wine tourism.

Vinothérapie® Caudalie Spa. It’s time to relax

We take a break to put on our swimsuits and enjoy the Vinothérapie® Caudalie Spa at Marqués de Riscal. A unique experience offering natural and effective treatments based on the extraordinary virtues of the vine and grape. A special moment of pleasure to pamper all the senses and unwind.

It’s time to recharge,
Chef Francis Paniego is waiting for us

We prepare for a top-tier gastronomic experience that will delight the most discerning palates. In an establishment renowned for its impressive architecture, the acclaimed chef Francis Paniego — honored throughout his career with 2 Michelin stars and 3 Repsol Suns — oversees the hotel’s restaurants (Gastronómico, 1860 Tradición, and Wine Bar), delighting us with his creativity and commitment to local products.

And after lunch… a stroll through the best vineyard in the world

After a good after-lunch chat, it’s time to stretch our legs, and what better place to do it than the best vineyard in the world. Marqués de Riscal owns and manages 1,338 hectares of vineyards spread across Elciego and neighboring towns like Leza and Laguardia. Of these, 513 hectares are estate-grown vineyards of Tempranillo and Graciano varieties, while the remaining 825 hectares are controlled vineyards.

We close the circle, bidding farewell to the day in Elciego

We return to Elciego to finish our tour by visiting the town. Established as a town in 1583 and with just 955 inhabitants, Elciego preserves numerous manor houses and Baroque palaces, such as the Casa de los Hierros, the Ramírez de la Piscina Palace, and the Church of San Andrés. The medieval walls surrounding the town, which give it a distinctly medieval character, are also a must-see.
